I am not a "real" photographer, or so I was told recently. I don't make my living doing this, and I have no intention of changing my amateur status. I do this as a creative outlet and because I love to try to capture and create images that are in my mind's eye. Sometimes I succeed, often I fail. But I keep going, and have yet to shoot with anyone that has not wanted to come back for a second shoot.
I am hypersensitive about making sure that the talent with whom I collaborate is comfortable within the bounds of the shoot. I probably cover this area ad nauseam, and encourage lots of communication before, during, and after the shoot. If there is something that you don't like, I want to know. If there is something that you love, I want to know. You won't offend me as I have a good, thick skin, and I like to know that my working partners are comfortable being honest with me.
To clarify one point...yes, I do shoot nudes on occasion with the right talent. I do not indiscriminately shoot nudes, I do have certain personal biases about what I want to see in a nude model, and I am not here for dates. (If you knew me, you'd realize how funny that thought is.) I would categorize the limited number of nudes that I shoot as fine art or gallery style nudes, although I am still a work in progress. I have done a handful of "slightly more than Maxim" nudes, and the results have been quite good. But if you're interested let me know and I'll let you be the judge.
Please do not initially contact me to shoot with a list of your rates and your rules for a shoot. I have no problem paying talented models who can assist me in specific projects, but my budget for this "career" is lower than I would like and as such I am very selective about whom I hire. I also tend to be very loyal to those model and stylists who have been good to me in the past, so those individuals will almost always be offered first dibs on any shoot that involves monetary compensation.
